CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A call to check on the welfare of a Cortland County man ends with a school lockdown and a suicide.
The sheriff's office says they were checking on a man in the Marathon area.
He was eventually spotted driving in Virgil, and they followed him to the City of Cortland, in the neighborhood of Barry School.
The school was placed on lockdown for a few minutes as a precaution.
Investigators say the man eventually stopped his vehicle on Delaware Ave, and shot himself.
No other injuries were reported, and there were no incidents at the school.
