ADDISON, N.Y. -- A fatal fire in Steuben County remains under investigation. It started around 3:30 a.m. Monday on John Rial Road in Addison.

State Police said there were five people inside when the fire broke out. Thomas Elliott, 80, and his wife, Lucinda Elliott, 78, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their children, Teresa Orr, 51, and Tina Norman, 52, were taken to Corning Hospital for non-life threatening injuries they suffered while trying to rescue their parents. The couple's son-in-law, Walter Norman, 62, also suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Addison Fire Chief Kendell Jordan said, "Structure fires are hard to tell. There really is no seasons. There are chimney fire seasons in the winter when people start up there chimneys, and of course we're in the middle of brush season now. Structure fires, depending on the cause, can vary any time of the year."

The house was deemed a total loss.
