BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Nearly 500 gymnasts jumped, twirled and danced at the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex Sunday. Athletes competed for the New York State Boys Championships.
Kids performed in events such as the floor exercise, pommel horse and more. It's the first time the championships have been held in Binghamton, with Chenango Gymnastics hosting the event. Organizers said they hope the change of venue will make the competition even bigger. Coaches said they’re proud of their gymnasts for getting to the state championships.
"I've done this for 20 years and I can watch these kids and sit there in tears. You can start with a child who can't do a forward roll and here they are competing.
It's awesome," said Jean Sabol, Chenango Gymnastics Owner.
Seven athletes from each participating level will be chosen to go to regionals in April. Nationals will be in May.
