VESTAL, N.Y. -- With the deadline to approve fracking set to expire, landowners are continuing the push to get their word out.

The Vestal Landowners Coalition held an informational meeting Thursday evening, promoting what they say are the benefits of gas development. Guest speakers with first-hand experience in the industry lent their knowledge to the audience.

Among them, Vestal High School graduate Matt Telfer, who is now the CEO of Borders to Borders Exploration, a well-drilling company in Texas. He says some concerns about contamination of ground water that anti-frackers often use as evidence that the method is unsafe are starting to be debunked.

"The State of Pennsylvania has just done a study that shows that natural gas is ubiquitous across the entire part of Northern Pennsylvania in the ground water already. Oil companies are doing a lot better job of going into these areas now and testing the water before hand to establish a baseline and understand will they have any kind of impact," Telfer said.

The deadline for New York State to approve hydrofracking is the end of this month, but once again, a decision could be delayed to provide more time for a comprehensive health review to be completed. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
