MARCELLUS, N.Y. -- A learning center in Marcellus is trying to make the jump to become a charter school.
Tuesday night, representatives from the Orenda Springs Experiential Learning Center held an informational meeting to share their ideas with the community and take suggestions about what parents would like to see.
The center has hosted school groups, churches and other organizations for years at their outdoor recreational facility. They say they've gotten a lot of positive feedback about the work they're doing, especially from educators.
"We've gotten enough of that, that several of us suggested that gee, if you do this on a one day basis, then maybe you could extend it. We all got thinking a little bit, actually it was John Powers, who owns the place, it was his idea that we can just go ahead and see if this works long term," said school facilitator Larry Craft.
The proposed school is still very much in the planning stages. Officials plan to take the feedback from Tuesday's meeting and one being held Wednesday and incorporate it into their proposal to the state. That meeting on Wednesday will be held at the Center of Excellence in Syracuse at 5 p.m.
