Police say Monday night's robbery at a Chase Bank in the Town of DeWitt is not an isolated incident. Detectives believe the suspects robbed multiple banks and have made off with several thousand dollars. Sarah Blazonis has more.
DEWITT, N.Y. -- Investigators say they have clear pictures of the men who robbed a Chase Bank, along with three others. So far, tips haven't been forthcoming, but they're hoping a wider reach will turn up results.
The first time this man appeared on bank surveillance cameras was January 3rd. Investigators say he robbed the Alliance Bank on West Genesee Street in Oneida. A person matching his description also robbed the Chase Bank on Court Street Road in DeWitt on the14th. But this time, he wasn't alone. The pair also shows up in footage during a robbery at Berkshire Bank on Western Avenue in Guilderland on the 22nd.
"Typically, under these types of situations, if somebody's from the area, very quickly with the quality of the images that we have, we'll receive tips right away. We have received very few tips," said DeWitt Police Investigator Thomas Regan.
Monday evening marked the second time the two committed a robbery in DeWitt. Investigator Thomas Regan says officers are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects.
Regan said, "These individuals may be traveling. It's possible that they're from more east, Albany area, New York City area. If they're traveling the Thruway, obviously they can be coming from Rochester, Buffalo area, or even from out of state."
So far, the crimes have taken place later in the afternoon and weapons haven't been used, but that doesn't mean they're unarmed.
"The note that was passed to the teller indicated that they were armed and indicated that they wanted all their money," Regan said.
Investigator Regan says one concern is that the pair may strike again.
"There's probably no question based on the boldness of them entering the banks where there's no disguise, they're walking in, with the exception of a knit hat and gloves, seeming characteristic of any customer," Regan said.
Investigator Regan says the public has played important roles in solving crimes before. They're hoping this time is no exception.
