If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a few Syracuse students have a lot to say in a photo project. The students recently started "Humans of Syracuse University." It's based on a similar project called "Humans of New York," which captures people in their day to day lives. Our Iris St. Meran spoke with the students behind the project on the hill and gives us a snapshot of what they're up to.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- "I carry my camera with me all the time, just in case an opportunity arises," said Syracuse University Student Chris Becker.
For Becker, that photo op is an SU student being him or herself. He's part of the group, "Humans of Syracuse University." The on campus group and Facebook page were created by student Ousman Diallo. It's based on the original photo project by Brandon Stanton called Humans of New York. And there are many other spin offs of the idea.
Becker said, "It's really cool to document the person with the crazy color jacket or the person with the funny hat or something like that. I also like to pick random people who I think are interesting in different ways like what they're wearing, maybe what they're doing."
Hannah Dorfman was a chosen one. She doesn't mind getting caught off guard.
"I think it's a cool concept, just because it's really cool to see people in their actual form on a normal day to day basis," said Dorfman.
Becker says he has a greater appreciation for the campus because this project forces him to walk around and see things from a different perspective.
"Looking at the architecture, where people are, where people are hanging out," Becker added.
With the pictures posted on Facebook, he hopes alumni see them and have some nostalgia of their days on the Hill. And if nothing else, tell a story through pictures about who and what this campus is all about.

Also, Humans of Syracuse University isn’t the only local “Humans of…” project. There’s also an unrelated “Humans of Syracuse” project that encompasses the entire city. It can also be found on Facebook.
