Not everyone can say they love their job, but we found a group of people in the Crystal City who undoubtedly do, and can prove it with their long history with their company. YNN's Katie Husband takes us to the Radisson Hotel Corning and tells us their secret to keeping their employees around for decades.
CORNING, N.Y. -- At the Radisson Hotel, guests come and go on a daily basis, but for the employees, that's another story.
"I was in college at that time and it was a part-time job that I was working," said Susie Palombo, Radisson Hotel Corning, corporate sales manager.
Now, 38 years later, Palombo is one of 20 Radisson employees being recognized for each having more than two decades of service under their belt. The group is being featured in Hotline the Americas magazine.
"It's a really fun, family atmosphere," said Michele Donegan, Radisson Hotel Corning, general manager.
So, what's their secret? According to Donegan, they use the saying 'yes I can' to motivate their employees. But it also gives them the independence to solve problems on their own.
"It's focused on empowering employees to make the right decisions, make the decisions that are best for the guests at the time, so they're not every second guess they kind of know what they can do and what they should do to make it right for the guests," said Donegan.
It's practiced by all one hundred or so employees at the hotel, which, according to staff, keeps the customers coming back.
"They can trust us to take care of their business meetings, their business dinners and stuff like that, so, I think, that makes a big difference," said Cindy Mullaney, Radisson Hotel Corning, server.
Besides customer service, the 'yes I can' program keeps the morale up between employees as well.
"Do you have a friend at work? And I know that's one question that everybody will answer 'yes' to," said Mullaney.
"Because there's so much longevity at the hotel it shows that this is a wonderful place to work and these are great people to work with," said Palombo.
The friendships that have been built over the years have been reinforced by those three little words. The outcome: satisfied customers who keep coming back.
The hotel also rewards its employees for their hard work through an employee of the month program, and they also name an employee of the year.
