While many rang in the New Year watching the ball drop or raising a glass to 2013, one Binghamton couple was busy welcoming the newest member of its family. YNN's Chris Whalen introduces us to Broome County's first New Year's baby.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- It was supposed to be a routine check up toward the end of Diana Pichardo's pregnancy. But after arriving at the hospital on the afternoon of New Year's Eve for a non-stress test, her doctor told her she wouldn't be leaving.

"Came here for an exam, NST test and didn't expect to stay here overnight. They made us stay and he came along pretty quickly after that," Pichardo said.

So fast, in fact, Pichardo's fiancé Rotsalenh Sisana didn't even have enough time to finish the dinner he left the hospital to get.

"We're having food, then all of the sudden, I get a phone call from a blocked number, I usually don't pick up for blocked numbers, so I pick up and Diana is like 'my water just broke!' and I'm like 'I'll be right there!'" Sisana said.

That call came around 11:15 p.m. New Year's Eve. Pichardo spent the next two hours in labor before baby Aidan became Broome County's first New Year's baby at 1:22 a.m..

Pichardo said, "He did everything on his own, so I didn't need any injection, he just had a big entrance saying 'I'm here!'"

Aidan is 20-and-a-half inches and weighs seven pounds and ten ounces. His original due date was December 30th and while there were some signs he was ready, he decided he'd rather ring in 2013 with mom and dad.

"The way the contractions were going, right on top of each other, I thought he was going to come that night. But no, he waited and waited and he just goes 'I wanted to be that New Year baby,'" Pichardo said.

Making 2013 already a year to remember for Pichardo and Sisana.
