While most people take part in late night New Year's parties, some just couldn't wait until midnight. Turning Stone Casino held a special event just for those early birds. Senior citizens welcomed 2013 a little early, counting down the seconds until the clock struck noon. Our Cara Thomas has the story.

VERONA, N.Y. — "5,4,3,2,1. Happy New Year!"

The clock may not have struck midnight yet, but dozens of senior citizens at the Turning Stone Casino still celebrated the New Year in style just like the good ole days.

“Being with friends, and being with family and just having nice clean fun. Dancing our hearts out, we love to dance," said Leonora Cook, a Syracuse resident.

They danced the day away to some of their favorite tunes and when the clock struck noon, they went back in time, to the ball drop of the 1965 New Year.

This is the first year turning stone is holding this type of New Year’s event. And these party-goers say it’s the perfect fit for them.

“My wife and I have a good time dancing the music is the 40s, 50s and 60s and it’s nice to dance to, it’s not too loud, it’s very nice," said George Ruffos of Parish.

"And we just love it, because we're the older folks now and we love to dance. And that's what keeps us young and going," says Cook.

They also appreciate having an alternative to the late night celebrations.

“Too crowded, we’re not too much into a crowd this... you know what I mean,” says Ruffos.

“Well, a lot of times, the weather has a lot to do with people going out at night time, especially the seniors," says Cook. "They don’t like to drive at night, well most of them anyway.”

So instead, they celebrate with friends new and old during the day and watch the 2013 ball drop in the comfort of their own homes.

Live bands and entertainment will fill the Turning Stone Casino New Year's Eve night as usual. You can tune in to YNN to check out the festivities. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
