It's been just more than a year since a $16 million renovation wrapped up at Syracuse's Landmark Theater. Changes have helped attract shows like "Wicked" and "Jersey Boys." Sarah Blazonis has more.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- More than a year after renovations wrapped up at Syracuse's Landmark Theater, arts lovers aren't the only ones benefitting from the changes.

Theater officials say improvements like adding more stage space and dressing rooms helped attract shows like "Wicked" and "Jersey Boys." Because Syracuse was one of their few regional stops, they attracted tourists from outside the area, particularly visitors from Canada.

That's good news for the Landmark and for downtown businesses.

"All the retailers are feeling the effect of the Landmark Theater bringing in the Broadway shows, and the restaurants, obviously are doing very well. In fact, a lot of the restaurants are doing so well that some of the people have to be turned away," said Joel Shapiro, owner of the Mr. Shop clothing store in Armory Square.

Members of the arts and business communities say the next step is capitalizing on the Landmark's draw. There could be new partnerships between the theater and businesses getting people to try out new restaurants and stores. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
