BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Another major step for the ACA memorial marking the tragic shooting in Binghamton. Crews installed 13 glass birds onto poles as well as a glass prism Tuesday.
The birds represent the 13 people who were killed during the mass shooting at the American Civic Association in April of 2009. The sculptures and the prism will have LED lights inside them.
The artist says his figures add a nice touch to the memorial.
"You can see the forms of the birds against the sky, it’s very beautiful and as one walks around the periphery of the park, you'll be able to see them from all different angles so it will take on a whole life its own," said sculpture artist Milton Townsend.
Organizers hope to have the entire memorial finished by Christmas.
