ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. -- Hundreds took a plunge into the cold St. Lawrence River Saturday for the Annual Polar Bear Dip.

Those brave enough to jump were judged on their skills and costume. Local residents packed the docks at Bonnie Castle to catch a glimpse of the Polar Bear Dip.

One group of 24 jumpers did so in memory of a lost loved one. Family and friends of the late Cody Hollinger from Pennsylvania say this is the perfect way to honor him.

Pennsylvania resident Heidi Hollinger said, "He completely loved the river, this was like his second home, so we will honor him in any way we can."

The group raised more than $9,000 alone for the jump. All money raised at the Polar Bear Dip benefits nearby River Hospital in Alexandria Bay.
