ITHACA, N.Y. -- Ithaca police are searching for three suspects after an early morning shooting that left one man dead. It happened just after midnight Thursday morning.

Police arrived at the Chestnut Hill Apartments to find the victim, Francisco Santiago, 25, of the Bronx, with a gunshot wound to the back. He later died.

Police say the shooting appears to be the result of a drug-related robbery.

Witnesses said three men may have been involved, who reportedly left the scene in a gray minivan.

There have been several shootings in Ithaca this year. The District Attorney says the number of people shot is on the increase and most of the cases involve drugs.

"They've either been out and out drug related, as in fights over turf, for example, or distribution networks, or they have been the outcome of grudges between drug dealers that may be somewhat personal, but which would not have occurred if they weren't in the drug business to begin with," District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson said.

The shooting is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ithaca Police at (607) 272-3245.
